In the early 2000s, NIDCR began offering R25 Oral Health Research Education grants to strengthen the research component of dental education. The overarching aim of the R25s was two pronged: 1) to enable dental schools to better apply basic and clinical research findings to their clinical training curricula and 2) to encourage dental school and undergraduate students to pursue careers in oral health research. In the March issue of the Journal of Dental Education, NIDCR grantees take a detailed look at the impact of R25 funding at Texas A&M Health Science Center’s Baylor College of Dentistry.
