Kathleen G. Stephan, MBA, serves as the associate director for management and executive officer of the National Institute of Dental and Craniofacial Research, National Institutes of Health. Since December 2014, she has been the NIDCR director's primary advisor on all phases of administrative management. In addition, she directs the Institute's administrative management, budget, HR, information technology, ethics, and management analysis functions.
Prior to becoming NIDCR’s Executive Officer, Ms. Stephan served as the Deputy Executive Officer with the Eunice Kennedy Shriver National Institute of Child Health and Human Development from 2011-2014. Ms. Stephan has also held key leadership positions with the National Cancer Institute (NCI) and the National Center for Complementary and Integrative Health (NCCIH). Since joining NIH in 1993, Ms. Stephan has provided comprehensive leadership on business operations, administrative analysis, and management analysis. Ms. Stephan has received numerous honors and awards.
Ms. Stephan was appointed to the Senior Executive Service (SES) in 2014 and is a member of the President’s Management Agenda (PMA) Cross-Agency Priority (CAP) subgoal work group, the NIH Community Advisory Board for Security, and the NIH Administrative Management Systems Steering Committee. Ms. Stephan is also a certified Emotional Intelligence Practitioner, executive coach, and facilitator.
Ms. Stephan holds a Bachelor of Science in Business and a Master of Business Administration from the University of Baltimore.
