Dr. Alicia Dombroski is the director of the Division of Extramural Activities at the National Institute of Dental and Craniofacial Research, where she oversees the Scientific Review Branch, the Grants Management Branch, and the Research Training and Career Development Branch. She also serves as the executive secretary of the National Advisory Dental and Craniofacial Research Council for the extramural program, and the executive secretary for the Board of Scientific Counselors for the intramural program.
Prior to joining the NIDCR, Dr. Dombroski was a program director at the National Institute for Allergy and Infectious Diseases in the Office of Biodefense Research Affairs. Her NIH career started as a scientific review administrator for the Microbial Physiology and Genetics review group at the Center for Scientific Review. Before coming to NIH, Dr. Dombroski was an associate professor of microbiology and molecular genetics at the University of Texas in Houston. She conducted NIH-funded research in mechanisms of microbial gene expression and served as a mentor and teacher for medical and graduate students. She received a Ph.D. in biochemistry from the University of Rochester and conducted postdoctoral research at the University of Wisconsin in Madison.
