Position Description: The National Institute of Dental and Craniofacial Research (NIDCR) is recruiting an experienced scientist to lead the newly formed NIDCR Imaging Core. The selected individual will be responsible for the day-to-day operation of the Core while providing consultation regarding experimental set up and sample preparation for imaging experiments; hands on training for all users interested in using Core instrumentation; assistance in image acquisition and data analysis when requested; and assuming technical responsibility for the upkeep of all microscopes.
Qualifications: We are seeking a candidate with a Ph.D. in the biological sciences with dedicated experience in the field of advanced microscopy. This experience must include laser scanning and spinning disc confocal microscopy, multiphoton imaging and super resolution (STORM, STED and SIM) microscopy. The individual must have extensive experience in fulfilling all aspects of an imaging experiment lifecycle, including sample preparation, image acquisition, quantitative data analysis, and data management. Well qualified candidates will have in-depth knowledge of real-time imaging of protein secretion in salivary glands; experience applying imaging approaches to the study of membrane trafficking; experience with live imaging of model organisms such as Drosophila; and working experience with 2D and 3D electron microscopy and the tools required to perform correlative light and electron microscopy experiments. Lastly, the candidate must be able to leverage the extensive resources available at NIH in support of the Core and NIDCR researchers. Such resources include the NIH High Performance Computing cluster for advanced and computationally intensive data analysis of fluorescent imaging data; utilizing technology offered through the NIH Library for 3D modeling, design and fabrication/printing of specialized items necessary for unique imaging experiments; and direct knowledge and hands-on experience with other imaging cores at NIH that offer resources not available at NIDCR.
Salary and Benefits: The current salary range is commensurate with experience and accomplishments; a full package of benefits (including retirement, health, life and long-term care insurance, Thrift Savings Plan participation, etc.) is available.
To Apply: Please submit a cover letter describing your interest in the position including a career synopsis (1 pages), a statement of research interests (1 pages), a current curriculum vitae and complete bibliography, and the names and contact information of three references to: Ms. Shirley Simpson (NIDCRstaffScientistSearch@nih.gov) via email no later than July 29, 2018.
