Biographical Sketch

Tanya Hoodbhoy, Ph.D. is the Director of the Tissue Engineering and Regenerative Medicine Program at the National Institute of Dental and Craniofacial Research (NIDCR) at the National Institutes of Health (NIH). Dr. Hoodbhoy comes to NIDCR from the National Institute of General Medical Sciences (NIGMS) where she managed research grant portfolios in developmental genetics, developmental signaling, and germline stem cell biology for about a decade. In addition, she managed a portfolio of postdoctoral fellowship awards for the Division of Training, Workforce Development, and Diversity. Prior to her time at NIGMS, Dr. Hoodbhoy was a Program Director at the Office of Strategic Coordination for six years where she oversaw several large NIH Director’s Common Fund Programs including the Regenerative Medicine Program in its early days. Dr. Hoodbhoy earned a B.A. in biology from Occidental College in California and a Ph.D. in biology with an emphasis in cell, molecular, developmental and reproductive biology from the University of California at Riverside. She conducted postdoctoral research in the Laboratory of Cellular and Developmental Biology at the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases at NIH followed immediately by a year managing the review of grant applications in the Development-1 study section at the NIH Center for Scientific Review while transitioning to a career in science administration.
