Biographical Sketch

Dr. Steven Scholnick is the Director of the Developmental Biology and Genetics program at the National Institute of Dental and Craniofacial Research (NIDCR). Originally trained as a developmental geneticist, he worked on Tetrahymena and Drosophila development before transitioning to work on the genomics of squamous cell carcinomas of the head and neck.

Dr. Scholnick came to the NIH in 2006 as a Scientific Review Officer and then to the NIDCR in 2009 as a Program Director. In addition to the investigator-initiated grants in his portfolio, Dr. Scholnick has been the program officer for the FaceBase Consortium since its inception in 2009. He has been involved in trans-NIH activities such as Big Data to Knowledge (BD2K), the Gabriella Miller Kids First Initiative and the Scientific Data Council working group on resource sustainability.
