NIDCR Releases New FOAs for Initiative to Reduce Oral Health Disparities and Inequalities in US Children

NIDCR has announced two new and exciting research funding opportunities to support a consortium focused on the oral health of children. The initiative calls for research that takes a holistic, multilevel approach in pursuit of the overall goal of establishing effective interventions or programs to reduce or eliminate oral health disparities and inequalities in vulnerable U.S. children.

The first of the two FOAs is titled: Multidisciplinary Collaborative Research Consortium to Reduce Oral Health Disparities in Children: A Multilevel Approach (RFA-DE-15-006), and uses the UH2/UH3 cooperative agreement mechanism to support studies that take a holistic, population health approach to promoting health and preventing and managing disease in vulnerable U.S. children who are between 0 and 21 years of age. The consortium program will support multiple investigator groups, each with an individual UH2/UH3 multilevel research project designed to test, validate, disseminate or implement a population health promotion, disease prevention or treatment intervention, or to evaluate outcomes of an existing program or policy. The UH2/UH3 funding mechanism supports both an exploratory and an implementation phase of research for a total funding period of up to five years.

For more information about the Multidisciplinary Collaborative Research Consortium to Reduce Oral Health Disparities in Children (MCRC OHDC) funding opportunity (RFA-DE-15-006), NIDCR has developed a list of Questions and Answers. NIDCR encourages you to first explore this resource prior to submitting a question. If the MCRC OHDC Questions and Answers do not provide the information you need, please email your question(s) to NIDCRQAMCRC@nidcr.nih.gov. The MCRC OHDC Question and Answer site will be updated periodically, and you are encouraged to refer to the site for up-to-date information.

A companion funding opportunity titled: Multidisciplinary Collaborative Research Consortium to Reduce Oral Health Disparities in Children: Data Coordinating Center (RFA-DE-15-007) uses the U01 cooperative agreement mechanism and solicits applications for a single Data Coordinating Center (DCC) that supports and coordinates many activities of the MCRC OHDC during both the exploratory (UH2) and implementation (UH3) phases. NIDCR will form Collaborative Working Groups (CWGs) around consortium themes and processes. The CWGs will be administratively supported by the DCC.

For more information on the DCC funding opportunity (RFA-DE-15-007), we have developed a comprehensive list of Questions and Answers.
