Ying Jo Wong, D.D.S.How has joining the PBRN benefitted you professionally?

The PBRN experience changed my professional life significantly. I had a practice in a small office in New York with another partner. My days were hectic, but I always made time to try and keep up with the journals and attend meetings. The problem was I just didn’t have the daily professional interactions to get a real handle on the state of the science. It was like trying to learn French on your own without any native speakers nearby.

Everything changed when I joined the PBRN. I met dentists who had the same goals to stay on top of the science, explore the latest technologies, and learn how the research process really works. We could discuss the various treatment issues that confronted us in our practices. The beautiful thing was we had a chance to help design and conduct studies to get the answers to our questions. I had never thought about academia and teaching. A couple of years after joining the PBRN, I started teaching at New York University Dental School. It’s been a most rewarding experience.
