Implementation Science for HIV/AIDS Oral Health Program

Overview

The Implementation Science for HIV/AIDS Oral Health Program supports studies that advance innovative strategies for the adoption and integration of evidence-based HIV and oral health practices and interventions to end the HIV epidemic and achieve oral health for all. Relevant research topics include, but are not limited to:

  • Cross-sector partnered, community engaged research to develop and test strategies to coordinate HIV and oral health care delivery in non-clinical settings to enhance the reach, sustainability, and effectiveness of evidence-based HIV and oral health prevention and treatment interventions
  • Research to understand and address provider, clinic, and health care system factors that hinder early detection of and interventions for HIV-related oropharyngeal comorbidities
  • Research to demonstrate scale-up of evidence-based HIV and oral health care integration model in communities experiencing HIV burden
  • Research to test acceptability and feasibility of intervention strategies for addressing psychosocial factors and barriers impeding optimum HIV and oral health care outcomes in racial and ethnic minority HIV populations
  • Research to determine HIV-related oral health factors, their impact on clinical and economic outcomes, and strategies to improve the dental care delivery system to enhance broad access to evidence-based oral disease prevention and treatment

In coordination with other extramural research programs, NIDCR supports HIV/AIDS research relevant to DOC health that is aligned with the Office of AIDS Research.
