Practice-Based Research Integrating Multidisciplinary Experiences in Dental Schools (PRIMED)

Background

The Practice-Based Research Integrating Multidisciplinary Experiences in Dental Schools (PRIMED) initiative aims to foster a culture of scientific inquiry in dental schools. It is intended to provide dental school faculty, students, and residents with opportunities to conduct practice-based research in dental school clinics and/or affiliated clinics to foster development of clinical and patient-oriented research skills. This involves fostering intra- and inter-institutional collaborations and peer and student mentoring partnerships, with the ultimate goal of stimulating additional clinical research pursuits.

NIDCR’s Response

In the interest of continuing its support of practice-based dental research, NIDCR released the PRIMED notice of funding opportunity (previously known as a funding opportunity announcement) on August 18, 2022.

NIDCR-Funded Awards

In 2023, NIDCR awarded 10 PRIMED grants totaling $6.9 million for up to five years of support.
