Empowering Data Driven Discovery: Inside the DDS Hub

The rapid growth in the volume and diversity of data, coupled with increasingly powerful data science technologies, is ushering in an unprecedented era of biomedical discovery. These tools are accelerating our understanding of living systems and driving clinical breakthroughs.

The National Institute of Dental and Craniofacial Research (NIDCR) understands that the world of data-driven science is as inspiring as it can be daunting. That’s why we’ve created the Data-Driven Science (DDS) Hub for the dental, oral, and craniofacial research community. This multipurpose knowledge base is a curated collection of resources to enhance your data-driven science skills and knowledge, a place to discover datasets and tools that can elevate your research, and an interactive forum for highlighting your own data and tools with the community.

We invite you to explore the resources we have to offer, and just as importantly, we encourage you to reach out to us at ddshub@mail.nih.gov with your own ideas for enhancing the DDS Hub and highlighting your data and tools.

Here’s an overview of what you’ll find in the DDS Hub:

  • Data Sources
Explore curated sets of dental, oral, and craniofacial health-related data, including data on population health, human phenotypes, human multi-omics, animals and microorganisms, head and neck imaging, and biospecimens.
  • Analytic Resources
Discover code repositories, collaborative workspaces, and computing resources to assist in your analysis.
  • Data Generation Resources
Understand how to use FAIR (Findability, Accessibility, Interoperability, and Reuse) principles for digital data collection.
  • Data Management and Sharing
Learn the basics of data sharing and reuse, access resources on best practices and policy, and find out where you can share your data or biospecimens.
  • Training and Tutorials
Find foundational, hands-on trainings, tutorials, and sandboxes for a gentle introduction to data-driven research.
  • News and Events
Keep up with the latest in data science research, and find future and past events, including slides from NIDCR’s three-part data science symposium series from the 2026 International Association for Dental, Oral, and Craniofacial Research/American Association for Dental, Oral, and Craniofacial Research (IADR/AADOCR) meeting.
