Working Group Reports
Oral Health Research Workforce Working Group
The National Advisory Dental and Craniofacial Research Council (NADCRC) Oral Health Research Workforce Working Group was charged with developing and recommending evidence-based approaches to sustainably recruit, train, and retain researchers who have knowledge and skills to build a robust dental, oral, craniofacial (DOC), and clinician-scientist research workforce. To accomplish this goal, the working group gathered information from several sources, including staff presentations on NIDCR extramural research training and career development programs and outcomes, a Request for Information on augmenting research training and engaging scientists in DOC research careers, and several listening sessions with key stakeholders.
Oral Health Research Workforce Working Group Report
May 2025
The Oral Health Research Workforce Working Group Report serves as a repository of insights, observations, and data that collectively offer recommendations to enhance the research training, career development, and retention of highly skilled DOC researchers. This report was developed by the working group, with final edits provided by NIDCR to comply with administration policies.
Data Science Strategy Working Group
The National Advisory Dental and Craniofacial Research Council (NADCRC) Data Science Strategy Working Group (DSS-WG) was charged by the NIDCR Director to provide recommendations on developing a data science strategy for NIDCR, along with recommendations for the strategy’s implementation. The DSS-WG consisted of members representing the entire translational spectrum of dental, oral, and craniofacial research, including representation from the NADCRC, and was active from September 2022 to January 2024.
Data Science Strategy Working Group Report
May 2024
Data and data science methods are transforming biomedical, behavioral, and social sciences by enabling research questions to be tackled at levels of magnitude and rigor previously unimaginable and unattainable, promising new insights into oral and overall health. This report addresses challenges and opportunities for NIDCR on developing a data science strategy that will shape future implementation across the translational spectrum. The recommendations for an NIDCR data science strategy align with the NIH Strategic Plan for Data Science and address specific challenges of applying data science to dental, oral, and craniofacial research.
