Dental Repair, Restoration, & Clinical Technologies Program

Overview

The Dental Repair, Restoration, and Clinical Technologies Program catalyzes end-to-end discovery, design, technology development, and translation of innovative materials, devices, and integrated systems intended to restore, preserve, manage, and optimize dental, oral, and craniofacial (DOC) health. The program supports smart and high-performance biomaterials, imaging platforms, implantable devices, and diagnostic/therapeutic tools designed for the complex microenvironmental conditions (e.g., mechanical, chemical, and microbial) imposed by the oral cavity and unique DOC functions. Emphasizing interdisciplinary collaboration and technical excellence, the program spans materials science, bioengineering, digital dentistry, imaging, and biosensing. SBIR/STTR-supported product development and regulatory science integration are encouraged to accelerate clinical adoption, patient-centered innovation, and technology commercialization. Specific topics of interest include, but are not limited to:

  • Functional and smart biomaterials
  • Advanced restorative systems and preventive technologies
  • Platforms for regenerative and multi-tissue repair
  • Implantable devices and osseointegrative technologies
  • Intraoral biosensing and digital diagnostics
  • Digital dentistry and advanced manufacturing
  • Digital twins and predictive modeling platforms
  • Intelligent systems, robotics, and automation
  • Novel and multimodal imaging and performance characterization
  • Translational acceleration and data-driven design
  • Resilience, accessibility, and user-centric innovation
