Biographical Sketch

As the first NIDCR Chief Diversity Officer, Joy Postell is responsible for fostering impactful internal and external NIDCR relationships including regular collaboration with scientific leaders and other diversity and inclusion practitioners and researchers. Her focus is to enhance diversity, equity, inclusion, accessibility and belonging (DEIA-B) initiatives throughout the NIDCR and across science, health, and education programs. Joy collaborates with program areas and offices to promote a culture that supports DEIA-B, and builds a sense of belonging throughout the workplace—including creating strategies for recruiting a diverse field of candidates for all positions across the institute. She serves as the primary point of contact and coordinator in leading internal committees for DEIA-B, and developing and implementing innovative, strategic solutions that will enrich the NIDCR's culture and the people serviced by the work of the institute.

Joy earned her bachelor’s degree in the Humanities from the University of Maryland University College, and a certification in Diversity and Inclusion from Cornell University. She is also a certified EEO Counselor and has completed many leadership trainings.
