Biographical Sketch
Dr. Lorena Baccaglini is the Director of the NIDCR Dental, Oral, and Craniofacial (DOC) Patient Health and Epidemiology Program within the Division of Extramural Research. Dr. Baccaglini initially completed her dental training at the University of Milan in Italy, then received a Master of Science degree in Prosthodontics at Marquette University in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, followed by a dental degree at the Medical College of Virginia and Advanced Education in General Dentistry training at the University of California, San Francisco. Dr. Baccaglini completed an oral medicine fellowship and clinical research training through the NIDCR’s intramural program, followed by a Ph.D. in Epidemiology with a minor in Biostatistics at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Prior to joining NIDCR in 2021, Dr. Baccaglini was a faculty member in the Department of Epidemiology, College of Public Health, at the University of Nebraska Medical Center. Dr. Baccaglini has also held faculty positions at the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio, and at the University of Florida. Dr. Baccaglini has mentored numerous trainees during her academic career and has served as Principal Investigator or co-Investigator on grants and contracts from the National Institutes of Health, the Patient-Centered Outcomes Research Institute, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, and the private sector. Dr. Baccaglini has been certified as a Clinical Research Professional and she is board certified in Oral Medicine.
