Janice Lee: Craniofacial Anomalies & Regeneration Section

Our Goal

The mission of the CARS is to understand craniofacial and dental development through human disorders that affect the normal development, growth and formation of the craniofacial skeleton and mineralized tissue.

The mission of the Craniofacial Anomalies & Regeneration Section (CARS is to understand craniofacial and dental development through human disorders that affect the normal development, growth and formation of the craniofacial skeleton and mineralized tissue. We are examining monogenic, rare diseases with craniofacial differences and common, complex inherited traits of craniofacial development (ie mandibular prognathism), in patients seen and treated at the NIH Clinical Center. Moreover, using animal models, we aim to understand the pathogenicity of these craniofacial and dental anomalies. Understanding the genetic and molecular mechanisms that lead to these disorders, as well as the postnatal progression and phenomics, will help guide clinicians in therapy and timing of intervention.
